The Minnesota Fraud Investigators Association (MFIA) was organized in 1985 by a group of investigators and other individuals interested in working together to prevent and detect fraud.

The Association coordinates and facilitates efforts toward preventing, detecting, and prosecuting fraud. By promoting active participation and cooperation of people and agencies concerned with these objectives, MFIA works toward a goal of eliminating public assistance fraud.

MFIA is dedicated to:

  • Providing education, training and professional development for its members.
  • Promoting efficient and effective means to prevent, detect and prosecute fraudulent activities.
  • Disseminating accurate and timely information to the media and government which reflects the nature and extent of fraud.
  • Advocating the Association's views to government agencies, the legislature, and the media.

BENEFITS:

  • Concurrent membership in the United Council on Welfare Fraud (UCOWF), a national organization promoting prevention, detection, elimination and prosecution of welfare fraud.
  • Subscription to "The Informer", MFIA's semi-annual newsletter and "UCOWF News", the UCOWF quarterly newsletter.
  • Membership in local and regional fraud groups.
  • Networking opportunities.

MEMBERSHIP TYPES:

  • Regular - Available to any public employee directly involved in prevention, detection, and prosecution of public assistance fraud, including those under contrast to perform such duties, and affiliated individuals in federal agencies.
  • Associate - Available to any individual who, in the judgment of the Board of Directors, has an established interest in, and supports the purposes and goals of the Association. Associate memberships are nonvoting.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Two state-wide training sessions
      1. 3 day Spring Training Seminar
      2. 1 day Fall Training Seminar
  • 4 day National Training Seminar
  • Training qualifies for Law Enforcement and UCOWF continuing education credits

FEES: An annual membership costs $25 and runs from May 1st through April 30th.

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION: The membership form is in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) form fill format. You can complete the form and print it, but cannot save it to a file. When completed, mail the form to the Secretary/Treasurer.
